Luis Gil's rehab start brings Yankees optimism

Down in Double-A Somerset, right-hander Luis Gil made the first start of his highly-anticipated rehab assignment, his first in-game appearance since he hurt his lat in spring training. The reigning Rookie of the Year in the American League threw 50 pitches, working 3 1/3 innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts, two hits and a walk.
The New York Yankees' starting rotation has been without Luis Gil and Gerrit Cole all season. An injury to Max Fried should shed light on how important adding another starter is.
