According to Merrimac Fire and Rescue, the firefighters were conducting a training exercise at around 7:15 p.m. when the water tender lost control along Highway 113 north of Highway 78.

Southwest Polk Fire District was also responding with another water tender. The fire is located at 23556 Wallace Road NW, the site of the former Evergreen Nursery.
