Few structures in Florida boast heritage as long and intriguing as the Amelia Island Lighthouse, built in 1838. This is the state's oldest lighthouse, and it is the only one from the Territorial Period that has survived without major rebuilding.

The Amelia Island Light is the oldest existing lighthouse in the state of Florida in the United States. It is located near the northern end of Amelia Island in the northeastern part of the state.

The City will preserve this monument, recognizing its importance as one of the island’s most visible and beloved historic sites. The Amelia Island Lighthouse property, located at 215 O’Hagan Lane (accessible from North Wolff Street), is open to the public for viewing on Saturdays from 11:00am – 2:00pm.

I will rave about Amelia Island, but the lighthouse has very limited hours they are open to the public and no access to the actual lighthouse. Strongly recommend visiting the island, but as someone who married a lighthouse lover, you can pass on this lighthouse.

The island’s acres of marshlands add to the tranquil setting, but if you ask around a little you can quickly learn about the island’s scandalous past and just perhaps the unique origin of Amelia Island Lighthouse.
