The Indian Coast Guard inducted Chetak helicopters in 1982, as the standard Search and Rescue helicopter due to its vastly proven safety record. The helicopter is being manufactured in India by HAL since 1965, under licence from Aerospatiale, France.

The Coast Guard Training Centre was established in 2002 and is functioning from the old building of CGDHQ-4. CGTC has been mandated to undertake specialized training for Coast Guard personnel on its statutory Duties and Functions and to train personnel on CG related subjects.

The Indian Coast Guard has come a long way since humble beginning in the late 1970s. Over the years, the service has emerged as a formidable force with credible achievements and a widely acknowledged international standing.
