If Apple decides, for instance to make having ProRes Encode/Decode engines a requirement for the operating system due to a fundamental feature, then you might see M1 Macs dropped, while M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, M2, M2 Pro, M2 Max, and newer keep support.

OBS works perfectly through Rosetta 2, however because of this it uses more resources than it would optimized and running on the M1 chip natively. On top of this most of the games I stream are also not optimized and running through Rosetta 2.

And that is, current and future M1 macs have no user replaceable parts, meaning that if your M1 mac dies for some reasons past the 3rd year, assuming you also got Apple Care +, then you're pretty much SOL irregardless of how long the M1 macs will get the update support. If the SSD dies, your SOL.

2024年1月11日 · Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. M1 might not be supported much longer then the last intel macs. This is why I caution anyone buying the m1 MacBook Air if they’re going to keep it more then 3 years. I am wondering if M1 pro/max/ultra will be supported for longer.
Is the M2 chip more future proof than the M1 chip.
2022年4月30日 · M1/Pro are just so good and a massive upgrade over the final Intel stuff. I'd buy the machine I like - form factor, I/O, etc and wouldn't worry all that much about which chip. For example - I'd gladly buy a discounted M1P MBP because I like it a ton but would choose the M2 Air over the M1 Air because I think the new design is slick.
