All naturally occurring giant sequoia groves are located in the moist, unglaciated ridges and valleys of the western slope of the Sierra Nevada range in California, United States. They can be found at elevations between 1,400 and 2,400 m (4,593 and 7,874 ft).

The natural range of the giant sequoia is a narrow band along the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada range, California, USA. The tree grows at high altitudes between 5,000 to 8,000 ft and only occurs naturally in about 65 to 75 disjoint groves (depending on the definition of a grove) with a total area of 36,000 acres.

One of the coolest stops here is the California Tunnel Tree, where you can literally walk through the base of a living sequoia. The easy Big Trees Loop Trail is perfect for a quick visit, but if you’re up for a longer trek, the Grizzly Giant Loop Trail takes you past the biggest stars of the grove. 9.
