The Walk. The Pinnacles Walk follows the stone steps constructed for packhorses which carried supplies for kauri loggers, gum diggers and gold miners who plundered the area in the early 1900s. The stunning 3-hour walk to the base of the craggy Pinnacles summit traverses groves of nikau palms, huge rata trees, and across streams and swingbridges.

The Pinnacles Walk is a popular walking track and it’s easy to see why. Swing bridges, a wonderful (but also hard) walk up to enjoy amazing views of the Coromandel Peninsula. This can be done as a day walk or an overnight walk, with younger children it might be nicer to split it up and stay overnight.

The Pinnacles walk is located in the Kauaeranga Valley, which is about a 40 minute drive from Thames. We recommend stocking up on supplies in Thames before embarking on the journey. Here are some instructions on how to get there if you are driving:

2022年8月24日 · The Coromandel Pinnacles, officially called the Kauaeranga Kauri Trail, is a popular walk in the Coromandel region known for its majestic views from the top of the walk, across the coastal coromandel ranges and nearby beaches and towns.

The Pinnacles walk is around 40 minutes drive from Thames. From the main road SH25 in Thames, turn right onto Banks Street, when you reach the BP petrol station you'll veer right onto Parawai Road. Follow this for 13 km until you arrive at the Kauaeranga Road End carpark.

Giant kauri stumps, abandoned logs, kauri dams and old tramlines can also be seen on this walk. The highlight of the trip is the last section of the track which is a steep climb leading to the jagged summit of the Pinnacles. Walkers are rewarded with magnificent panoramic views of the Coromandel region.
