How is the structure of triiodide ion (I3-) possible?
2018年8月20日 · I have seen the structure of triiodide ion ($\ce{I3-}$) but I cannot understand why this structure is even possible. I have seen in my textbook that $\ce{I_3^-}$ is formed by combination of $\ce{I2}$ and $\ce{I^-}$ ion in which $\ce{I^-}$ ion acts as a donor and $\ce{I2}$ molecule act as acceptor. It accommodates electrons in empty d orbitals:
lewis structure - Formal charges on polyatomic ions - Chemistry …
For example, in the $\ce{I3-}$ ion (triiodide), the Lewis structure is the following: This gives a single formal negative charge to the central iodine. In my textbook, it says to remove formal charges from the central atom whenever possible, so couldn't we form a double bond with one iodine and therefore move the formal charge off of the ...
Describe the bonding in a tribromide anion, what is its structure?
2019年2月6日 · In fact, tribromide ion has the generic formula $\ce{AX2E3}$ according to Lewis diagram. Where $\ce{A}$ is the central atom, $\ce{X}$ an atom bonded to $\ce{A}$ and $\ce{E}$ a lone pair on $\ce{A}$. Using Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion (VSEPR) theory, the geometry of this ion will be :
inorganic chemistry - Lewis structure of dinitrogen trioxide ...
2020年8月20日 · See Dinitrogen_trioxide with the structure, bond lengths and angles. Be aware both $\ce{NO}$ and $\ce{NO2}$ are radicals with an unpaired electron. $\ce{N2O3}$ being( $\ce{ON-NO2}$ ) as 2 paired radicals is the direct analogy
Is the triiodide ion polar? - Chemistry Stack Exchange
2015年12月23日 · Isolated Triiodide and Pentaiodide Anions in the Crystal Structure of [Rb(Dibenzopyridino-18-Crown-6)2]2(I3)(I5) Zeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie Volume 634, pages 1247–1248, says it is bent with an angle of 174.8 degrees. Theoretical Study of the Solvent Effect on Triiodide Ion in Solutions J. Phys. Chem. A 1998, 102, 2065 ...
molecular structure - Why does triiodide have only single bonds ...
2024年5月31日 · After all, it disperses formal charge and has a higher bond order. Yet, the triiodide ion being linear shows that the first structure is the correct one. Why? P.S.: A similar question does exist but asks why the formation of triiodide is possible, rather than why it …
What part of ascorbic acid is oxidized when it reacts with iodine?
2023年12月29日 · The Lewis structure of the reduced form has two carbons at an oxidation state of +1, and they change to +2 in the oxidized forms shown below: The image shows three forms of the oxidized vitamin C (with a nod to the other answer) but in all of them, the bottom two carbon atoms show two bonds to oxygen each (either two single bonds or one double ...
The Lewis structure for NCO- - Chemistry Stack Exchange
2015年7月17日 · Do the same exercise for structure #2 and you find that the negative charge is on nitrogen. Since oxygen is more electronegative then nitrogen, the negative charge is more stable when its on the oxygen atom. Therefore, structure #1 is more stable (preferred) than structure #2. Structures #3-#5 are even less stable.
bond - AlCl3: ionic and covalent? - Chemistry Stack Exchange
2016年5月7日 · However, it actually turns out that the $\ce{Al-Cl}$ bonds display a significant degree of covalent character. In the solid state it adopts an 'ionic lattice' structure with octahedral coordination for the $\ce{Al^{3+}}$ ions but in the liquid and gas phases it exists as a covalent compound, either as $\ce{AlCl3}$ or as a dimer $\ce{Al2Cl6}$.
molecular structure - Why does the phosphorus trifluoride …
2020年9月2日 · My book says that from drawing the Lewis structure for the molecule below, you can conclude that it has dipole moment. Can someone please explain why? I understand that the dipole moment expresses the polarity of the bond. And that the dipole moment of a molecule is the sum of the dipole moments for each bond in the molecule.
