Jack is the protagonist of BioShock. He is a young man who, prior to his unwilling arrival in Rapture, was a passenger on an airplane that crashed near the lighthouse that provided entry to the underwater city.

Jack is the silent protagonist of BioShock, whom the player controls throughout the game. He is first seen aboard an airplane, which crashes near a lighthouse in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean containing a bathysphere terminal providing entry to Rapture.

Booker DeWitt is the protagonist of BioShock Infinite. He is a private investigator and, prior to his reluctant arrival in Columbia, a former soldier and Pinkerton agent. Booker is offered a deal to wipe away his debts if he goes to Columbia and retrieves a girl imprisoned there.

Andrew Ryan is the founder of Rapture, the undersea Utopia that is the setting for BioShock. His name is a partial anagram of Ayn Rand, author of the novel Atlas Shrugged, which served as the main inspiration for Ryan's philosophies and aspects of BioShock's story.
